Ms. Sawyer began her career when she received her accreditation as a registered dental technician in 1983 from College of Dental Technology at Aichi Gakuin University School of Dental Medicine in Nagoya, Japan. In 1990, she earned a bachelor of science in healthcare management from Southern Illinois University.
Ms. Sawyer joined Cusp as office manager when the company was established in Manhattan, New York in 1990. Three years later, Ms. Sawyer was appointed sales representative and began to cultivate Cusp's client base throughout Massachusetts.
In 1995, Ms. Sawyer was promoted to general manager as Cusp opened its second laboratory in Boston, Massachusetts. She was named vice president when the two locations merged and based all operations in Boston.
In October 2007, Kimiyo Sawyer became the president of Cusp Dental Laboratory.
Ms. Sawyer lectured on "Laboratory Procedures, Communication and Responsibility" at Harvard School of Dental Medicine in May 2009, "Communication for Minimizing Remake" at University of Pennsylvania in October 2009, and UCLA in November 2009.
In 2010, Ms. Sawyer presented "Guidelines for Successful Laboratory Communications" at Louisiana State University in March, at Harvard Dental School in April, and served as co-presenter at LMT Lab Day East, NY featuring "Zirconia or Lithium Disillicate: Material Science and Clinical Application" in April. She presented "All Ceramics/ Dental CAD/CAM" at Harvard Dental School in June, attended the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) Barcelona, Spain in July where "Clinical Performance: All-Ceramic Restorations" results were presented by Markus Blatz, DMD, PhD. Ms. Sawyer's company, Cusp Dental, handled the laboratory work for this study.
